As we prepare to face Deal Town this Saturday, we know we’re up against a side that has truly impressed in recent times. Deal Town enjoyed one of their best-ever seasons in 2023/24, attracting an average crowd of 630 to The Charles Ground. Although they had a slow start with just one point from their first three games, they turned it around in dramatic fashion. Clinching the SCEFL title on April 13th with a 3-1 win over local rivals Lydd Town, and with four games to spare, was a testament to their strength and resilience.
A key moment in their title charge came just before the turn of the year with a 4-2 away win over Faversham Town, who had been widely tipped for promotion. Their form wasn’t just confined to the league; Deal also embarked on a memorable FA Vase run. After a dramatic penalty shootout win against Bridgewater United, they took over 400 fans to Lincoln United for the quarter-finals. Though they were knocked out on penalties, Deal Town left with their heads held high.
What makes their success even more remarkable is the support they’ve received from their fans. Deal broke their home league attendance record three times last season, culminating in a crowd of 1,598 for their final game against Stansfeld in April.
We know we’ll need to be at our best on Saturday to get a result against such formidable opposition, but we’re ready for the challenge. Let’s get behind the team and show Deal Town what Eastbourne Town is all about!
