Eastbourne Town signed off in style on the road with a commanding 4-1 victory over VCD Athletic, taking all three points in what proved to be a historic and emotional afternoon for the hosts.

Heading into the game on 52 points, just one shy of last season’s total, we knew exactly what was at stake. And Jude Macdonald’s side delivered.

We made the perfect start, breaking the deadlock inside 10 minutes through Alfie Rogers. Picking up the ball outside the box, he showed great composure to fire across goal and into the bottom corner to give us an early lead.

We made it three wins on the bounce on Bank Holiday Monday as Aaron Capon’s second-half strike secured a 1-0 victory over Crowborough Athletic in a sun-drenched East Sussex Derby at The Saffrons.

Following our 7-0 Good Friday win over Beckenham Town, we made just one change to the side, with JJ Walker returning from suspension at centre-half in place of Jimmy Holman.

Early Pressure and Half Chances

The visitors started brightly and tested us early on, with Winterton called into action to produce a fine save from Harry Forster after a deflected clearance fell kindly for the Crowborough man.

We soon settled into the game and began to create opportunities of our own. James Waters went close from a free-kick, while Sonny Walsh nearly produced a moment of magic with an attempted chip over Charlie Holmwood, but couldn’t quite find the finish.

Despite both sides showing intent, it remained goalless at the break.

Eastbourne Town produced a sensational attacking display on Friday afternoon, sweeping aside Beckenham Town with a stunning 0–7 victory on the road to make it back-to-back wins.

We came into the game full of confidence following our 3–1 home win over Sheppey United, while Beckenham had earned a respectable point away at the league leaders despite sitting 21st in the table. But from the very first whistle, there was only ever going to be one outcome.

We flew out of the traps and were ahead inside two minutes. Ollie Davies was the man to get us going, finishing early to the delight of our travelling supporters—many of whom were still making their way behind the goal after the pre-match end switch.

Eight minutes later, Beckenham threatened briefly from a corner, but we turned defence into attack in devastating fashion. Alfie Rogers delivered a superb pass to release Leon Greig, and the marauding full-back showed great composure to slot past the onrushing goalkeeper Carter Sullivan.

The goals kept coming. Rogers got in on the act himself, finishing at the back post, before Davies grabbed his second to make it 0–4 inside 20 minutes—a ruthless start that left the hosts stunned.

Just before the break, James Waters produced arguably the goal of the night. From the right side of the box, he unleashed a stunning free-kick that flew into the top-left corner, beating the goalkeeper on his side. It was a moment of real quality and capped an incredible first-half performance.

Town’s young guns fire three past Sheppey United at The Saffrons to secure three points.

Saturday 28th March would see Non-League Day land on a home fixture at The Saffrons and Jude Macdonald’s squad certainly delivered the goods with a 3-1 win. So too did the weather, for the most part! 

The game kicked off in glorious sunshine, breathing life into the Eastbourne Town squad, who were still bitter about the defeat away at Jersey Bulls last weekend. Town dominated possession and had the majority of better chances for most of the first half. Early on, Alfie Rogers tried to bend one in the far corner, and Ollie Davies registered the first shot on target but lacked any power to trouble Sheppey’s man between the sticks. Moments later, Davies managed to find the net in style. Eitel Moumi Goueth was dispossessed by Davies, who galloped towards the Sheppey goal with one intention, and that was to score, and he did. He shifted the ball to the defender’s left and struck a vicious right-footed strike across goal and into the bottom left corner. One-nil Town! And that is how it stayed despite efforts from Rogers and Walsh before the half-time whistle.

The second half started quietly on the pitch, but off it, the weather changed drastically! A shower of hailstones hit The Saffrons fifteen minutes into the half, even forcing a brief stoppage by the referee. Moments later, after the restart, Sheppey struck an equaliser. After a corner kick, captain Danny Leonard pounces on a loose ball in the penalty area and strikes home through three Eastbourne Town defenders. One-one!

Sheppey were level but it never felt like they were really back in the game, and The Town wanted their lead back. Ollie Davies was the main threat, with two opportunities at goal and one squirming past the goalkeeper’s right-hand post. At the 71st minute, up steps Sonny Walsh. Leon Greig whips in a delicious in-swinging corner, and Sonny Walsh meets it with a glancing header at the near post and in off the crossbar. Que the celebrations and relief in the Sid Myall and Taffy Jones stand!

Town were not done yet. Substitutions were rolling, the sun was back out, and Jimmy Holman was still bouncing from his England Schoolboys call-up in midweek. So much so, it was Town’s number five who sealed the three points. James Waters delivered an in-swinging free-kick from the right-hand side to the back post, and Holman met it with his head. Despite William Heater’s best efforts to keep it out, the ball finds its way into the bottom corner, and Town celebrate victory on Non-League Day!
