We made it three wins on the bounce on Bank Holiday Monday as Aaron Capon’s second-half strike secured a 1-0 victory over Crowborough Athletic in a sun-drenched East Sussex Derby at The Saffrons.

Following our 7-0 Good Friday win over Beckenham Town, we made just one change to the side, with JJ Walker returning from suspension at centre-half in place of Jimmy Holman.

Early Pressure and Half Chances

The visitors started brightly and tested us early on, with Winterton called into action to produce a fine save from Harry Forster after a deflected clearance fell kindly for the Crowborough man.

We soon settled into the game and began to create opportunities of our own. James Waters went close from a free-kick, while Sonny Walsh nearly produced a moment of magic with an attempted chip over Charlie Holmwood, but couldn’t quite find the finish.

Despite both sides showing intent, it remained goalless at the break.

We Take Control

The second half began in similar fashion, with Winterton once again on hand to deny David Ajao after good work down the right.

From there, we began to take control.

The introduction of Aaron Capon at half-time lifted both the tempo on the pitch and the noise off it, as the Saffrons crowd sensed the momentum swinging in our favour. That momentum looked to have paid off when Jack Murphy delivered a superb cross to the back post, where Sonny Walsh looped a header into the far corner—only for the flag to deny us.

Capon Delivers the Winner

We kept pushing, and the breakthrough finally arrived in the 77th minute.

Harvey Greig picked the ball up in midfield and spotted Capon’s run. His perfectly weighted ball over the top allowed Capon to battle through, hold off his man, and calmly slot home in front of a packed terrace.

The celebrations said it all, as Capon raced to the corner to celebrate with our supporters—marking a perfect return after suspension.

Another Big Three Points

From there, we saw the game out professionally, with Crowborough offering little in response as we secured another important three points.

The win lifts us up to 11th in the table and, importantly, confirms our place in the division for next season. We’re also now on track to surpass last season’s points total of 52.

A brilliant Bank Holiday at The Saffrons—and another step forward for us.
