Statement regarding Eastbourne Town Women:

It is with great reluctance we have taken the decision start the process of withdrawing Eastbourne Town Women from London Southeast Regional women’s Football League for 2021/2022 season.

This decision has not been arrived at lightly and has been part of many weeks of thought, however following the conclusion of the 2020/2021 a total of 18 players have left the club for a variety of reasons. As a club We have the greatest of desire to compete at the highest level however The standard of football in the London & Southeast Regional Women’s Football League is highly competitive and to recruit 10+ players of that standard into the squad at this stage would be incredibly difficult given the other teams in our catchment area.

We have decided that it’s best to hit the reset button on the women’s squad and start again at the bottom. By dropping voluntarily to step 7 we firmly believe we are giving ourselves the best chance of stopping the women’s team from folding and will use the opportunity to rebuild a squad that we can drive forward, hopefully returning to the league in seasons to come.

The club would like to place on record but thanks to everybody who has been involved in the women’s team journey so far and the efforts people have gone to previously to keep things going.

For now though it’s time to start afresh and we offer our full support the new management team in the task of rebuilding the squad in the seasons to come.
